The team at McCutchen Napurano - The Law Firm would like to remind you to use caution and warn your family and friends that there will be lane closures over the river between Fort Smith and Van Buren after a multiple-vehicle accident has caused lasting lane closures near the Arkansas River bridge.

Whenever lanes are closed for construction or after serious accidents like the one that occurred today, it is vital to remember to exercise caution, watch for slow or stopped traffic ahead of you, and consider taking an alternate route if possible.

Traffic safety is an important yet often-ignored topic that we should be talking about with our family members, and especially our less-experienced teen drivers. Whenever a major accident causes lane closures, we should be aware of the dangers and exercise extreme caution.

Authorities have confirmed that three people were killed this morning in an accident on Interstate 540 near the Arkansas River bridge in Van Buren. Crawford County Coroner Pam Wells confirmed the fatalities today, and witnesses have reported that multiple commercial vehicles may have been involved in the crash.

While the official details of the crash have not been confirmed, Channel 5 News and eyewitnesses have reported that a logging truck driving northbound on the inside lane on I-540 may have crossed the median and struck vehicles on the opposite side. It has been reported that a dump truck and a flatbed semi-truck may also have been involved in the accident.
