Hot Springs, Arkansas resident Brett Alan Emmett was sentenced to more than 25 years of imprisonment after making a guilty plea on Tuesday, January 10 in Garland County Circuit Court. His charges include manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death. The convictions relate to a ht and run that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in 2015.

Usually, manslaughter charges are punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment and leaving the scene is punishable by up to six years of imprisonment. However, since Emmett was classified as a habitual offender, his sentences were raised to 25 years of imprisonment and 15 years of imprisonment for the same charges, respectively. Said jail sentences are to run concurrently.
